The non-linear mechanical characteristics of tailings under high pressure are the research foundation large-scale dams. Considering stress caused by tailing ponds, consolidated drained triaxial shear tests were carried out. deterioration mechanism mechanics was revealed particle crushing. test results show that sample density has a great influence on volumetric strain low pressure. However, is not related to strength significantly non-linear. internal friction angle can still be obtained traditional linear Mohr–Coulomb criterion and power function Mohr criterion. crushing occurs only at but also value breakage index increases with density. affected breakage. linearly increasing strength, indicating deep part dam prone crushing, which affects stability dam.
